Good ATI Video card I can buy for gaming?

I'm looking for a good graphics card to buy that's possibly under $100. I want it to run GTA IV on my computer smoothly. I'm currently using ATI x1650. It has to be a PCI Express slot.

Minimum Video Card Requirement to Run GTA IV.

256 MB (nVidia GeForce 7900/ATI Radeon X1900)

If you have the money, I'd make the jump to the radeon 4870 for $125:

However, the 4850 is still a good card, though the GDDR5 in the 4870 does give it a nice boost:

That's your good $100 option. Anything less and it looks like you'll have problems playing GTA4 with high settings. It's good to include your other specs as well.

One thing I did notice is it sounds like ATI's cards may have some issues with GTA4. Not sure, but it sounds like it's one of those games that just doesn't like ATI. Anyway, you might consider an nVidia card. I'm not an nVidiot, I have Hd 4850 Crossfire, I just don't play GTA4.

Something like this GTS 250 (formerly the 9800GTX+) might serve you better for GTA4.

Okay so I real a bit more and it looks the real problem is not having a good enough video card on its own (though yours is not good enough).

Apparently it's a game that runs four threads, meaning it will only perform well on quad core. Then my advice to you would be this, depending on what you have already:

Grab this 9600gso, a moderate nVidia card about 20% slower than the 8800gt/9880gt, for a mere 35$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

In fact, if you're also CPU limited, you will likely see little difference between the 9600gso and the waaaaaay better 9800gtx+/gts 250... etc

And get yourself a quad core:

Personally, if your on socket lga775, look for a used q6600 and overclock it (if you're able, it's very easy, read about it, it's a free .6ghz boost at least). If your on AM2/AM2 plus look for a used Phenom gen 1 or low end Phenom II. I'd suggest like a 9850be/9950be. One click overclock to 2.8ghz pretty much because it's got an unlocked multiplier.

Anyway, if you have questions about what your system can take, or how to overclock, feel free to email.
