How to fix PCI-E speed for video cards?

My motherboard was advertised as supporting PCI-E 2.0 x16 (Asus Rampage III Formula), and my graphics card both report the ability to run at PCI-E 2.0 x16 (AMD HD Radeon 6870, XFX), but for some reason they both are running at PCI-E 2.0 8x. Is there a way to fix this?|||Your motherboard isn't incorrect. You probably have an x48 motherboard (or amd equivlent) which in crossfire only supports a maximum of 8x PER card. A socket 775 Intel or AM2+ Proccess would have the chipsets in question.

Solutions: New base system. (Board,processor,ram,psu)

Remove a card and sell it for 16x solo bandwidth.

keep it in and enjoy crossfire.
