PCI-E 2.0 and a PCI-E 3.0 video card?

I hope this can work... Is it possible to run a PCI-E 3.0 video card (Radeon HD 7970) in a PCI-E 2.0 socket?|||Yes, it will work, but only at the data throughput rate of PCI-E 2.0.|||Yes... all versions of PCI-E are cross compatible. You could pair the 7970 up with a PCI-E 1.0 motherboard with a Pentium 4 if you wanted to. Although, I'm sure you would see a bottleneck with that one.

Anyone who says you will face a bottleneck really doesn't know jack. yes, PCI-E 3.0 does handle twice the bandwidth but PC games don't hog the PCI-E bandwidth. You would see a small performance loss with other programs that use a GPU's massive ability to crunch numbers. Then again the whole PCI-E connection will cause a performance loss with programs like file encryption. Why do you think AMD is pushing the Fusion platform that combines the CPU and GPU?
