Can I disable on-board graphics and put video card in a PCI slot?

I'm looking into buying a computer off of someone, but I'd like to upgrade it. Here's what they say is in the computer:

8 GB DDR2 RAM (4 sticks at 2GB each)

AMD Phenom X4 9650 Quad Core CPU OEM

Masscool CPU Fan

Seagate Barracuda 750GB Hard Drive

Asus M4A785-M Motherboard

Samsung SH-S223C DVDRW Drive

Power Up Black ATX Mid-Tower Case w/450W PSU

Sapphire 100284L Radeon HD 5750 1GB

The monitor is a Dell ST2210 21.5” Full HD Widescreen Monitor

Some of the specs (you can find more online) are:

Panel Size: 21.5"

Aspect Ratio: Widescreen (16:9)

Response Time: 5 ms

Contrast Ratio: Dynamic Contrast Ratio 50000:1 (max)

Now I thought Sapphire 100284L Radeon HD 5750 1GB was a graphics card, but if you look up the motherboard on newegg (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.as… it says there are onboard graphics. Does this mean they've disable the onboard graphics and put a video card in the PCI slot? Would it be possible for me to get a new video card and AMD processor and put them in this computer, or am I going to need to get a new motherboard all together?|||What were/are you going to upgrade? The only "weak link" in this system is the power supply (maybe).

"Does this mean they've disable the onboard graphics and put a video card in the PCI slot? " - No, the video card is installed in the PCIe slot. That automatically disables the onboard video.

"Would it be possible for me to get a new video card and AMD processor and put them in this computer ?" - Yes, but again, why?|||Sounds like on board disabled and they using a card|||Putting a video card (like the Radeon HD 5750 1GB ) in a PC automatcally deactivates the onboard graphics.

Assuming that PC has an operating system installed, that's a nice setup for anything short of hardcore gaming. You can play pretty much any game on that system - if you're willing to allow the most demanding games to run in low video settings. I wouldn't change a thing.

Whether or not that's a good deal depends on how much you're paying for it.|||Ok, the motherboard has onboard graphics, but the computer is not using it because it has a graphics card installed in one of the PCIe slots, which disables the onboard graphics. You don't really need to get anything new for that computer it is fine for gaming as it is. Maybe the power supply should be upgraded but that is the only thing I can see right now.

So basically, that motherboard has onboard graphics, but its not using it because of the better HD 5750 that is installed in the PCIe slot.
