That being said, YES....you can ABSOLUTELY run this card in a PCI-e 2.0 X16 slot of your current system.
Without being too technical, PCI-E 2.1 is a specification that allows additional managment and troubleshooting functions of the upcoming PCI-E 3.0 spec, but run at the 2.0 link speed.
