i need a sli ready video card any help would be nice|||The best video card out there is the PNY XLR8 GeForce 8800GT for $250 on AMAZON. It is faster than the 8800GTS and almost as fast as a GTX (will be way faster when in SLI). Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/PNY-XLR8-8800GT-51…

By the way, ATI is falling really behind in the battle, so don't get them for a while, until they can beat the 8800s. Hope this helps!|||i believe you can run crossfire on that board maxium pc magazine showed the new hp running crossfire on a sli nvidia motherboard

exactly will this card improve for me, I use the

Also, what does the HDMI output allow me to do?|||That's a pretty old card, but I need your old graphics card to see what it will improve. If you don't play games it should be fine.

AGP \ PCI-E? Help with Video Card...?

I am having some trouble installing my gigabyte radeon 4670. It is a PCI-E card but it seems as though if I were to install the card as it would correspond to the slot on the board the videocard would be facing inward (i.e.) the hdmi ports etc. would be in the computer instead of being exposed by the slot on the back of the computer case. It seems like it would be a perfect fit for the black AGP slot but again I believe the gigabyte radeon 4670 is a pci-e 16x card. I really am stumped. I hope someone can help. * will best answer*|||You need to be sure which you have; AGP or PCI-E

And you need to know which card you have. Look at the box, it should tell you.

If you have AGP, you do not have PCI-E. It is a newer technology that overtook AGP as the standard for video cards.

There is no way to fit that video card to the motherboard that you have.

You would have to either buy a motherboard that supports your CPU and has PCI-E, or buy an AGP video card.

Can you tell me what video card to purchase?

I know nothing about video cards and such, so help me out... Right now I know that I have a RADEON X300 SE video card, it has 128mb memory and it really sucks for gaming.

I have a PCI (spelling?) slot I guess (dunno what that means), and I need a really nice card for gaming (not hardcore, just like Age of empires, The Sims 3), and something fairly inexpensive but I want to see my options. Thanks!|||I think Nvidia makes the best cards. for you i would say maybe a 9500, 9600 or so. the 8 series is slightly less efficient and less productive but will be cheaper. maybe an 8600. check out the nvidia website

ATI isnt bad, but not as good as nvidia. for them i would say something around the 4650 series.

these might be cheaper, but nvidia is kinda the standard for graphics cards so I would recommend them. nvidia all the way :P

Can't install video card drivers for Radeon 6870?

I used to have a GeForce 9800 GT and then I thought it broke. I decided to get a new one so I shopped around and bought a XFX Radeon HD 6870. I plugged it in and such but and tried to install ATI catalyst but it is not working so I cannot get any drivers for my card. I can get as far as to the screen where it gives you the option to install or uninstall but when I click install I get an error message from windows like the one below.

I am stuck in the windows basic theme and can't change the resolution above 1280 by 1024. This is the same thing that was happening with my old card. The only thing that might be messing it up could be that I have the 4 pin molex to 6 pin pci express adapter for my video card cause my power supply (Sunbeam Hush Ultra 680W PSU) only came with one 6 pin connecter but I don't think that is the problem. Gigabyte and MSI are my favorite board makers. People jump up and down about asus but I've had terrible luck with them. I'm on like 4 bad asus boards, 1 bad MSi board, no bad gigabyte boards (though they are sometimes slow to add CPU support to older boards, if they ever do.)

If you want a better processor, the Phenom II X4 955/965 Black Edition is fantastic.

At this point I think AMD is a better deal than Intel, but as it has been for years now (ever since core 2) intel offers you the best possible performance (i7 only) at a price premium.

Does PCI Express x16 slot supports pci express 2.0 x16 video cards?

Hello.I have a Asus M2N motherboard with a Pci express X16 slot. I have now an ATI radeon x550 (pci expressX16) and i was wondering if it would work if i instaled a pci express 2.0 X16 video card?

Thank you very much.|||Yes you are able to install a PCI X16 card into a 2.0 slot. Your issue will be that although it will support the card. The card itself will run slower to run in the 16 slot. So performance of the card will be reduced.

ok while putting in my video card i had to be a lil rough with it and i was worried because all the plugs i have DVI, VGA, HDMI will not work because my screen does not receive a connection from it for some reason. i suspect i might have done something to my pci e or my video card is broken my screen was fine because it was working before i put in the new graphics card my graphics card is a ATI Radeon 4770 Series Please and Thank You|||You should NOT force any card into any slot, they slide in with just a little wiggling. I install several dozen a day.

I agree with the other guy, the slots AND the cards are relatively robust and will handle a BIT of clumsiness.

It is simple to figure out. Try the card in another PCIe16 slot or if you only have one slot, try the card in another computer. OR try someone else's card in your slot. That will determine whether the issue is the card or the slot (motherboard).

Go into the bios and make sure that it is set to card as opposed to integrated. Make sure you follow directions for the install properly In some cases, you install the card first, then the drivers, in other cases you install the drivers first. (when all else fails, read directions). Go into device manager then display adapters and make sure you see your new card, not the old one.

I doubt the screen i s broken, but thank you for mentioning it. You should also try with another hdmi or dvi cable. MOST techs prefer dvi plus spidf on our desktop boxes because it is a better, more robust connection, but we usually use hdmi on our notebooks to cut down on clutter. Make sure you use ONE cable at a time, not multiples like on a TV.|||I've been a little rough with my cards when building computers and they worked fine. Most likely your video card is defective.

What video card is better radeon x800 AGP for $135 or the x1650 PCI-E for $95?

I know PCI-E is suppose to be faster, but if it is than why the more expensive price on the x800?|||Best to have the X1650 PCI-E 'cause it has more powerful GPU than X800 and also PCI-E cards has its own advantage over AGP cards in terms of speed and performance.|||The biggest difference is the form factor that each video card uses (AGP vs. PCI Express). This also happens to be the critical factor for your choice, as your system uses one or the other, but not both. So you need to determine which form factor your motherboard will accept, then make your purchasing decision from there.|||The AGP has more Ram and better cooling unit.

That IceQ makes it pretty much worth it.

Although it seems like PCI-E would perform better, youll hear nothing but good things about the Ice-Q.

And theyre both crossfire compatible so you really cant go wrong.|||The reason why the Radeon x1600 AGP is expensive than the Radeon x1650 is because the x1600 has 512MB meaning faster processing and memory units to play games or images. However, i would recommend the radeon x1650 PCI-e for it is overclocked more than the x1600 and alos the PCI-e is a newer type of card. OH yea one more thing, agp and pci-e are two different cards, so first identify which type of slot your computer can run AGP or PCI-e. google the images and you will be able to tell which card you need. Hope this helps

Move to an uncarpeted area where you have a low chance of getting a static charge.

Press the power button on your computer to discharge any other electricity built up inside your computer. (After you've unplugged it)

Open the case of your computer (can't tell you exactly how since they're all different) and locate your old video card. It will be the card where the blue monitor input slot is on the back.

Unscrew and/or unsnap the old video card from the PCI slot by lifting up on it by the ends. Set aside.

Carefully remove your new video card from the anti-static bag making sure not to touch the gold pins.

Holding it by the top corners, gently but firmly push it down into the PCI slot evenly until it snaps or won't go down anymore. Screw the metal lip back to the computer chassis and replace the cover.

Boot your computer as normal and install your video drivers, then reboot. You should be good to go here!|||Open your computer Case

Dylan|||AS long as the card you are looking at is AGP, you shouldn't have any problems. The only things I can think of that may be a bit of a problem are the size od the Power Supply Unit and whether or not the card requires an extra power plug. You may need a PSU of at least 350W. You may have to go up to a 400 or 450. In either case, these are not that expensive. You will enjoy a major step up in performance with this card.

Upgrade my radeon 1100 video card 128 to 256mb?

i wanted to know if there any way possible to upgrade my ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 graphic card to 256. it says you can. in the specs. but it requires more RAM. i have a 1gb RAM card. and im willing to update to 2gb becuase they are WAY cheaper. but i just want to do a little gaming. nothing TO serious. just wanna know if yall know if its worth the time. or if i should just upgrade altogether. (including RAM, and power supply.)

intel pentium 4 GPU 3.20ghz

1 gb RAM (which is really 990, cheap bastards)

and a sloppy 1100 xpress video card (i think its built in to the mother board, but i have like 3 PCI slots)

help would be appreciated. and im a noob so i dont know how to rate you guys or whatever.

but feel free to use big words. im pretty computer smart.|||unless there's an option in the BIOS to change the size of the frame buffer for the integrated video (which you have) your only recourse is get a discrete video card. If you only have PCI slots then your choices are going to very limited. Nvidia mada a PCI GF 8400GS 512 MB for PCI and ATI made a Radeon HD 4350 for PCI as well. Expect to spend around $60-$80.

Also I would consider adding another stick of RAM another GB would be good.

BTW your computer does have 1 GB of RAM. It's just that some of that RAM is being used by the Integrated video adapter you have (the 1100 xpress ) so anywhere from 8-128MB of that 1024MB of RAM you have is being reserved for the video. So it'll always show up as having less RAM than you really do. If you were to install a real video card, then your computer will report the full 1GB of RAM since the video card will have it's own dedicated RAM to use.|||get at lease 3GB ram and a Radeon HD 3650 512mb they are really cheap and you can play some cool games but not on high settings,,,that 1100 xpress video card will play nothing

this has a 128bit bus compared to the 64bit in the 2400,and with a core clock of 600mhz and 256mb of gddr2 memory running at 1000mhz this is a much better performer, even when watching dvd,s and hd-dvd

graphic cards are one of the pieces of hardware we buy for our p.c were its best buying better, cheap graphic cards are normally inferior in specifications and only have low specs, making it easy for manufacturers to sell them so cheap

go for at least mid range, remember the graphics denote what you see when you use your p.c,you dont want a rubbish image in front of you every day, spend that little more and enjoy

good luck mate !|||Its like every new game that comes out Your card needs to be updated But if your only playing older games then you should be ok In a few years time the new games that come on the market will be ten times biger But yes that card is ok|||That card is fine for sims 2. You could get away with a cheaper card in fact.|||The HD 2400 is a decend card for the money but there are better cards for a little more. If you like ATI, there is the HD 2600 that should be a little more money (about $30). However, the HD 3850 is about $200 and is far better then both the 2400 and 2600. If you can afford $250-300, you can get the ATI 3870, another good card.

With nVidia, 8800 GT or greater are good cards. However, you will be paying much more for these cards (starting at $300+).

The only thing that I would recommend is that you get a card with 512mb ram. This is the new requirement for video cards as many of the new games require lots of ram on the cards to perform great.

PCI Video Card on Mac G4?

Does anyone know how to make a G4 display video on a PCI video card? Not its standard AGP card slot?

My problem is my stock AGP card died, and I have a near identical Radeon card that does work but is a PCI card. I removed the old AGP card and installed the PCI card and the computer boots up but does not display any picture...

Any ideas?|||You need a copy of the video card that is specific to a Mac. Mac OS is very picky on hardware and using a PC video card will not allow proper operation of the machine.|||/facepalm

You do realize that for the G4, Mac video cards and PC video cards are different, right?

Can you combine a PCI and PCI-E video card?

I have a Nvidia 8500GT (PCI-E 512) and an ATI Radeon something(PCI 256) if i put them on the same comp, can i comebine them to make a 768 mb video card or something along those lines|||No, you cannot. Not only do you have bus problems (PCIe and PCI), you have different graphics cores that do not support bridging to one another.

If your motherboard supports Crossfire on the first two PCIe slots, then you can combine two ATI crossfire-capable cards using the crossfire bridge.

Similiarly, if your motherboard supports SLI, then you can combine two Nvidia SLI-capable cards in the first two PCIe slots.|||SLI on NVIDIA platforms and Crossfire on AMD/ATI platforms allow you to combine two PCI-Express cards together to have increased performance out of one of the cards, if that's what you're thinking. It does not work with mixing different buses (PCI-Express, AGP, PCI). The video memory from one card can't be shared with another card that way.

You can, however, use them together for a dual-monitor solution, say watch YouTube on the monitor connected to regular PCI while playing Battlefield 2142 or some other game on the monitor connected to PCI-Express. On another note, you can also do this on an SLI or Crossfire board, but then those technologies have to be turned off.|||You can put them both in the same computer, but any game you run will only use one of the cards.

The only useful purpose of adding the PCI card would be if you want to use several computer screens at the same time. The 8500GT probably has connections for two screens, if you want more you add the Radeon card.|||that's gotta be the wierdest version of Sli meets crossfire i've ever heard of ...and btw...NO YOU CANNOT haha if u put in both you'd be screwing up your mobo sooo i wouldnt recommend it, just use the PCIE it's 16x faster then pci, sell the radeon bro or invest in a new mobo and by another of the EXACT card for an nvidia sli setup|||One big reason why not to do such to your computer. You will have to have 2 differant drivers, not to mention ONE NVIDIA driver and ONE ATI driver all operating with the same operating system. It would cause such a caos in your system it would probally send out a loud brain fart from all the conflicts...|||No, with your powers combine you cannot create Captain Planet. But if you tape them together, you can make a Nvidia Radeon 8500000000GTX Ultra Edition|||No, but you can use them both to set up a dual monitor situation.|||No it is not Possible to Combine Any Pci-E or Pci Card with each other|||No ,its imposible|||Nope.

Sapphire ATI X1650Pro - 512MB AGP Video Card vs. GIGABYTE ATI Radeon HD4550 512MB DDR3 DVI/HDMI PCI-ExpressVid?

Ok im trying to see which one of these video cards would be best to use on a Hp pavilion 7965 to play world of warcraft.

*Sapphire cost: $66.99 but then i would have to buy a new battery pack 350 watt+ which would cost and extra $30

*GIGABYTE cost : $46.99 , idk what type of Battery pack i would need for Hp pavilion 7965 if you know can you tell me cause if i need a higher battery pack i will get 256MB GIGABYTE nVidia GeForce 6200 Video Card if it can work on my computer if you know answer that too plz :).

So which on do you think i should get for my HP Pavilion 7965?|||You CANNOT use the Radeon HD4550 at all. That card is a PCIExpress video card, and your Pavilion 7965 does NOT have a PCIExpress 16x slot to accomodate it.

The X1650Pro AGP should work in that Pavilion since the 7965 does have an AGP slot, but that is NOT a good choice.

The best and last AGP card ever made is the ATI Radeon HD3850 AGP. If you are going to do an AGP upgrade, that is the card you want. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…

Hope this helps.

EDITED TO ADD: The X1650 is two generations older than the HD3850. Consequently the X1650 is rather outdated and does not support DirectX10 or HDCP. The HD3850 is relatively recent and has DX10 and HDCP support. It's a no-brainer-- If you are going to upgrade an old AGP system, why not go for the last and best AGP card ever made? If you want anything more powerful, you'd have to buy a whole new PCIExpress system.|||sorry but i just bought one from my friend

Video Card Troubles go on forever?

Accidently shorted out my video card and ordered a replacement via the web. It was a Radeon ATI, two weeks later, they said it wasn't compatible with my system. I asked a question what was a good video card for the money and good some good answers, but they were for PCI cards and not AGP. Now on the third card and from the box, it states the requirements and I meet or exceed them.

This is an XFX Geforce 7600 GS AGP card. The second card was an EVGA Geforce 7600 gs which didn't even want to fit into the slot without force which I was reluctant to do for fear of cracking the motherboard.

Anyone have experiences, bad experiences with these cards? And, what's the likely hood that I've received three cards that are defective?

I'll also mention that in the bios I reduced the apperture from 8x to 4x, the memory to 128 then 64, and turned off all the read write features that might have prevented it from even booting and that didn't even help it form a post code.|||Depending on your motherboard, AGP has different voltages. Older boards support only 3.3v cards, while some newer boards support only 1.5v cards. There are some boards that support both. The newest specification is for just 0.8 v. Supposedly they will fall back and accept 1.5v I looked for info on the XFX but did not find a voltage reading. The EVGA also did not have a voltage reading but said that it was AGP 3.0 so I am going to assume 0.8v. Check your motherboard and see what it supports. If it says only AGP or AGP 2x then you may be limited to 3.3v cards. Support for AGP 4x will get you to the 1.5v range and AGP 8x should be 0.8v.

There is also an AGP Pro slot. This slot has some different requirements and will accept a standard AGP card but will only work if it has a special tab. Check out the links below for some details about the AGP edge connectors and their differences between voltages. Good Luck.|||theres lots of settings you can change to tweak graphic cards but the problem here is you shouldnt have to force a agp card in a agp slot

the agp interface is the most complicated of all 3 graphic interfaces(agp.pci-e,pci-bus),this is because over the ten years agp has been around there has been many types of agp versions and bandwidths, these include....

1.agp 3.3v

2.agp 1.5v

3.agp universal

4.agp pro 3.3v

5agp pro 1.5v

6.agp pro universal

bandwidths...x1 / x2 / x4 / x8

AGP cards are backward and forward compatible within limits. 1.5 V-only keyed cards will not go into 3.3 V slots and vice versa, though "Universal" slots exist which accept either type of card. AGP Pro cards (rarely used) will not fit into standard slots, but standard AGP cards will work in a Pro slot. Some newer cards like nVidia's GeForce 6-series or ATI's X800-series only have keys for 1.5 V to prevent them from installing in older mainboards without 1.5 V support. The graphic cores can only handle 0.8 V for AGP8x and 1.5 V for AGP4x and will be damaged by 3.3 V slots. Some of the last modern cards with 3.3 V support were the nVIDIA GeForce FX series and the ATI Radeon 9500/9700/9800(R350) (but not 9600/9800(R360)).

However it is important to check voltage compatibility as some cards incorrectly have dual notches and some motherboards incorrectly have fully open slots. Furthermore, some poorly designed older 3.3 V cards incorrectly have the 1.5 V key. Inserting a card into a slot that does not support the correct signaling voltage may cause damage.

i hope this has helped, any problems let me know

good luck mate!

and i have 5 gb ram, so i dont know why it doesnt work|||two possible problems....

Drivers: you may need to upgrade to the latest drivers for your card... there could be know issues with the drivers that came with the card.

Power Supply: does your system have a power supply rated high enough to deal with the power demands of your graphics card and all of the devices installed on your computer? I'm leaning to this problem, it looks like more demanding games are causing your problem.|||Nope, if you wanted to increase the available power you would need to upgrade the power supply.

I have a sapphire 100215l Radeon HD 2600xt 512 MB 128 bit GDDRJ PCI express x 16 HDCP ready cross fire supported video card retail.

Is this good enough? This is for a school project its worth 25% of my grade. If not can you give me an idea on how to find a better one?

You also have to look at what else you do with your comp. Do you game alot or just mainly surf the web? If you do game what kind of games?

That card you listed is more or less a entry lvl video card that has the new DX10 capability. Its not ment for power in games and such, as I said it will run with vista just fine though|||That's a powerful video card you have there.

Hello all,

I'm interested in your opinoins of this video card...

256MB PCI Express™ x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon X600 SE HyperMemory

I intend to purchase a dell system and this is the card that comes with it.

It is important to note... I plan to purchase either 3 24inch wide screens or 3 20inch wide screens also from Dell. I'll be using mainly for charting stocks on 2 screens and playing video games on the thrid. Will this card handle those kind of applications?

Any thoughts or opinoins?

Thanks you.|||Don't get an SE version ... cause the major change in it is the ram capacity... and they give you a crappy GPU

You have to look for a good GPU(400MHz is fine) .. because it is the unit which specifies whether you buy a video card or not ... more about GPU here:-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics_pr…|||it sounds good but why u buying a dell, heaps better around at same price|||You mean X1600. The X1600 graphics card is ok, but not good for hard core gaming and sort of sttuters on games like Doom 3. If possible, try to get a nVidia, preferabbly the nVidia 7300. it is around 90 bucks, yet smokes most of the competition.

to directly answer your question, yes it will handle all of that. however, like i said, if possible, you should see if dell offers nVidia as nVidia is more preferred for for buisness type stuff not to mention gaming.|||I looked through Dell's computers to find this card, and I couldn't. I did find a 128MB Radeon X600 SE, anyway perhaps you could update with which particular model Dell you were looking for. Anyway, the Card will probably do fine, however if you are gonna invest in 3 widescreens you might wannna invest in a top level graphics card as well. This card should be able to handle all, the charting of stocks will not be graphically demanding, and this card should work just fine for gaming.

PS. i want to play the newer games like oblivion|||Oblivion reccomends an ATI X800 series, Nvidia GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card.

But your proposed card is a supported chipset.|||That will run it just fine. Lots of memory for higher resolutions and 128bit memory bus for good framerates.Need a 300 watt PSU minimum and a AGP 8X graphics slot as this is not a 4X/8X card and will not run in an AGP 4X slot.

I also have a 400 watt power supply. The computer is only about 3 years old. It has an AGP slot.

Sorry, I am really new to installing video cards. I know the difference between AGP, PCI and PCI-E but I have no clue if there are other things I need to consider before buying and installing the card. I am not too familiar with other terms such as 4x/8x. And have no clue if I need to know more about my motherboard or other parts of my computer before knowing if a video card will work.

Besides answering my basic question about if it will work, I would also really appreciate it if someone could tell me how to find this out for myself for future reference or tell me what needs to be done to make it work (if anything). Thank you very much in advance!|||just check and make sure your motherboard uses the agp standard instead of the new pci express.

the 4x/8x rate means it will work at those 2 speeds.

you can check the sony website for specs...i do all the time since i also have a sony vaio which i'm on right now.

thats a pretty good card too.

if you have lquid cooling like me, then there is not alot of room for add ons. the video card will be a tight fit and will almost overlap the next pci slot so plan accordingly. good luck!|||Yes, it has AGP8x slot.

Marketing Specifications

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-d…|||Nothing else you really need to consider. 8x is the speed of the card and slot. PCI is 1x, AGP can be 2x,4x, or 8x, and PCI-E is 8x or 16x. Any AGP card goes in any AGP slot, but if the slot is only 4x, and the card is 8x capable it will only run at 4x speed.

Do I need to uninstall onboard GPU drivers before installing a PCI-E video card?

I'm on Win XP SP2. Do I need to uninstall or disable the onboard graphics before installing a new card on my system? The onboard is ATI Radeon and I will be adding an Nvidia GeForce.|||You should disable it in case of conflict, not always essential but recommended

pcfx|||It would be a good idea to as it would eliminate any driver compatibility issues. Personally though I didnt install any drivers for my on-board graphics card when I got this computer, and then simply installed the new card with the new drivers - worked fine.

But yes, if you have onboard drivers installed, it does no harm in removing them.|||Nope, I would not uninstall any drivers for your current GPU.

Rather, after you insert your new video card, depending on your bios and mobo you may need to enter the bios and tell it to use the pci x (or agp or whatever) rather than the on board video.

I have installed several video cards and have never had any issues.

Make sure to ground yourself before installing, worst thing you could do is shock and blow your new video card!

Good Luck!|||it would be a good idea to disable it (I wouldnt unistall it, if you acidently disable the wrong hardware it can easily be reenabled) depending on your system you computer may try to use both graphics controlers wich could decrease performance.|||Yea you should disable the onboard graphics card. To do this go into your system's BIOS. That way you don't run into any conflicts.|||Don't disable that is just stupid, you should be fine.

Video card: PCI and Onboard = Dual monitors?

Ok, I have been doing a ton of research all night. I need some real help from someone professional. I have a radeon that I bought inside my pc which obviously replaced the display from my onboard. But, i really want to use my onboard along with my new video card for two displays. I went to my BIOS. It had the three options: 1. PCI - this is the one I installed 2. PCI - E.... that is PCI express. Also, the one I installed along with something different. Not sure what. 3. Is the onboard one. There is NO option to do both. So, the question is: Is there any hardware or anything I can do or get to give me the option to have two. And please don't give me the crap about buying a card with two VGA outputs. I don't want to spend the money right now. If there is another solution.. i want to use it. Please help me. Thanks!|||nope there is no other way. you will only develop conflicts within the system if you try using both onboard and video card.|||Hi

They way that you get two monitors working is buy two video cards the same (make sure they don't need a clip) and insert them into your computer as I had to do that to get two monitors on mine. I know it's a pain but that's how computers are now. If you were to get any just go to a computer swap meet and pick two up the same size for about $20.00 max it may be less and get them tested down there.

Alex|||I am unsure of onboards if the mobo actually shuts the circuit you have no way to use it, and only Linux I know can possibly do what you intended as an extended desktop using two separate drivers no crap on SLI or Crossfire;

I played on having an NV TNT2 AGP with ATI Mach64 PCI driving an extended Linux desktop across two monitors, even now Windows can only have one display driver active contrary to what Linux's GUI could do years ago, and hybrid Crossfire across buses does not yet exist.|||No, I don't think you can do that... it's an either/or sort of thing. I believe you would have a major conflict with the OS software trying to run two different video outputs from different output sources...|||You shouldnt need two video cards, Im running two on the same card, But since you dont have that option then you cant do it as far as i know. Maybe check google youtube places like that

Good Luck|||Buy a VGA splitter with X number of outputs.

What PCI Video Card should I get?

So I have a 4yr old Dell XPS 400 I am looking to upgrade my video card but I don't know anything about video cards so I don't know what I should get. I'm upgrading from a Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series video card in order to play PC games comfortably.

Here's a link to the PCI cards on Tiger Direct if that will help:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/…|||Well, first off you don't want a PCI card... you want PCI-Express. Dell's XPS 400 has a PCI-Express x16 slot for graphics card upgrades, which is vastly better than old PCI.

http://www.dell.com/content/products/pro…

It also comes with a 375W power supply, which limits your choices. The best cards you'd be able to install without upgrading the power supply are the GeForce GT240 (guaranteed) or Radeon 5670 (about 95% probable to work).

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

While the Radeon 5670 has an official psu recommendation of 400 watts, on most systems it doesn't require nearly that much. Most people with 350W power supplies can run the 5670 just fine. Also, Dell's power supplies are slightly underrated compared to generic units.

Here's how the cards perform- you can also see power consumption in part 9:

http://www.techspot.com/review/240-ati-r…|||You're looking at the wrong type of card. The Dell XPS 400 supports a PCI Express x16 video card, which is the type you should be buying. PCI based video cards are way out of date and seriously underpowered for today's games.

The processor in that PC is fairly limited (Pentium D series at best) so I wouldn't go crazy on buying a ultra high end video card. A GeForce GT 240 would work with your existing 375W power supply and allow you to play pretty much any game that your processor can also handle.

In the end though I decided to visit the NVidia site and found Windows 7 drivers for it along with stereo graphic drivers (3D). The Windows 7 drivers are better then the Vista drivers - not much better, but still better. I do not know how old you video card is but if it is no more than about 2 years old then you may find that there are Windows 7 drivers for it and they will be better than Vista, though the Vista drivers should still work.|||I've only come across ONE piece of hardware that works in Vista but not in Windows 7, and it's a Wireless G network card of a specific model. need to know what version of x16 is it 1.0 or 2.0 or what|||It's PCIe 2.1 x16, but that doesn't matter.

PCIe 1.0 and 2.0 (and thus, 2.1) are compatible with each other, just like how USB 2.0 and 1.0 are compatible.

And at the performance level of the 5570, there is no difference between using a 1.0 slot or a 2.0 slot.

As long as you have ANY PCI-express x16 slot, you'll be fine.

Not sure which one is really better, I know the powercolor is a 1gb card, but I was reading that the sapphire has a 256 bit bus width while the powercolor only has a 128 bit. Not sure if that makes a huge difference. If anyone knows which one is better I would appreciate the help. And yes I know they are both agp and I should just buy a new system and upgrade to pci-e, but please humor me.

Thank you in Advance|||Based on what I know (about the cards AND companies), and what I've heard (about the companies), the 3850 is the better of the two...because Sapphire, unlike Powercolour, actually works...Powercolour has a rep for being a) cheap, and b) cheaply made.

All that being said, you can probably find an HD4770 for about $100USF...and it is better than either card.

Fnord|||the 4670 is better, i got a 3870 (big brother of 3850) and the 4670 is better then my 3870 too so :D

Question about getting a new pci video card?

i know pci videocards are obsolete nowadays but thats all my computer can use........i am trying to decide between 2 cards....my monitor supports both dvi and hdmi......the only card i can find with hdmi is a Diablotek AP4350 512MD2-H VTX Radeon HD 4350 Video Card - 512MB DDR2, PCI, DVI, VGA, HDMI......i cant find any reviews on it and was wondering if it was a good one? the other card supports dvi and iassume it is a good one

EVGA 01G-P1-N948-LR GeForce 9400 GT Video Card - 1GB DDR2, PCI (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV, VGA, Low Profile.......i play games like everquest WoW and microsoft flight simulator and a want one that will run these game alright and i also wanna run windows 7 aero.......any ideas?|||Honestly it's gonna be worth popping the extra money for a new motherboard and getting yourself into the PCI Express x16 standard. the 7300 will give anywhere between 50 and 200 % more frames per seconds...|||I'd go with a 256MB 7600GS from nVidia, i'm a big fan of BFG, and you can find a 7600GS for under $150 on-line, check out newegg.com

I am looking to purchase a video card for my Dell.?

I have a standard PCI slot available.... So I'm trying to decide between a Radeon 9250 or a Geforce FX5500. Both are very similar in price and performance, it seems....at least on paper. Right now I'm using integrated graphics, so anything's a step up. If there's a card I've over-looked, I'm willing to take a gander, although these seem to be my best choices without having PCI-E or AGP. Any ideas would be helpful! Thanks!|||Neither. I'd buy from newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…|||Meh, I always say that it is pretty much a waste of effort getting a PCI video card. But that is my opinion.

I can tell you from personal experience that the FX series of video cards from Nvidia were terrible. They barely even outperformed the geforce 4 series.

I'm looking for a video card to upgrade from the integrated graphics on my motherboard and I only have PCI and PCI-X expansion slots. However, it's still inferior to a $45 PCI-Express x16 card. If your computer has a PCI-E x16 (or even a PCI-E x1) slot, a card of that type is far preferable to a PCI card.|||You do not want to buy a card for PCI if you have PCI-X slots available.

PCI-Express is a slot specifically designed for higher bandwidth devices like video cards, PCI on it's own, like the picture you linked, are designed for things like sound cards, network cards and other devices that do not require a large data pipeline.

So assuming you have PCI-X 16x, you are going to want to get a PCI-express video card. Which is likely the three-tab cards you were talking about.

PCI video card upgrade?

Hello. I have an eMachines (sucks, i know) T3882 computer with no AGP or PCI-e slots. I have a GeForce 6200 PCI card for it, and I am really pissed that it can't play Crysis at more than 10 fps @ 640*480. (At the time, the X1550 card was $50 bucks more, so i didn't get it.)

Now that the hd2400 radeon has come out in PCI, i was wondering if it would be able to play crysis on low.

Rest of My PC:

2gb of ddr ram

80Gb hdd

Celeron D 2.8

PS: I don't want to upgrade my processor, cuz i'm getting a new pc in like 6 months. Also, it's only gonna cost me like $10 to get the hd2400.|||ok,neither of those graphics cards are brilliant...personaly id buy a 80 pound nvidia 8600gt graphics car..the rest of your spec seems gr8:)|||Well the HD 2400 is a descent card with 40 Stream Processing Units and Math Processing Rate (Multiply-Add) of 56 GFLPS, memory bandwidth of 13 GB/s its a starter card. Definitely better than the card you have so definitely you can go for it if your getting it for 10 bucks. You mite be able to play crysis at like 10-12FPS @ 800*600|||The HD 2400 is not much better than the GeForce 6200. Sorry, but you'd still be playing on low and getting about 15 FPS max. Don't waste your money, just wait for your new PC.|||Have you tried to drop the colour depth to16bits and stop any unnecessary processes like firewalls and antivirus software.

Can I disable on-board graphics and put video card in a PCI slot?

I'm looking into buying a computer off of someone, but I'd like to upgrade it. Here's what they say is in the computer:

8 GB DDR2 RAM (4 sticks at 2GB each)

AMD Phenom X4 9650 Quad Core CPU OEM

Masscool CPU Fan

Seagate Barracuda 750GB Hard Drive

Asus M4A785-M Motherboard

Samsung SH-S223C DVDRW Drive

Power Up Black ATX Mid-Tower Case w/450W PSU

Sapphire 100284L Radeon HD 5750 1GB

The monitor is a Dell ST2210 21.5” Full HD Widescreen Monitor

Some of the specs (you can find more online) are:

Panel Size: 21.5"

Aspect Ratio: Widescreen (16:9)

Response Time: 5 ms

Contrast Ratio: Dynamic Contrast Ratio 50000:1 (max)

Now I thought Sapphire 100284L Radeon HD 5750 1GB was a graphics card, but if you look up the motherboard on newegg (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.as… it says there are onboard graphics. Does this mean they've disable the onboard graphics and put a video card in the PCI slot? Would it be possible for me to get a new video card and AMD processor and put them in this computer, or am I going to need to get a new motherboard all together?|||What were/are you going to upgrade? The only "weak link" in this system is the power supply (maybe).

"Does this mean they've disable the onboard graphics and put a video card in the PCI slot? " - No, the video card is installed in the PCIe slot. That automatically disables the onboard video.

"Would it be possible for me to get a new video card and AMD processor and put them in this computer ?" - Yes, but again, why?|||Sounds like on board disabled and they using a card|||Putting a video card (like the Radeon HD 5750 1GB ) in a PC automatcally deactivates the onboard graphics.

Assuming that PC has an operating system installed, that's a nice setup for anything short of hardcore gaming. You can play pretty much any game on that system - if you're willing to allow the most demanding games to run in low video settings. I wouldn't change a thing.

Whether or not that's a good deal depends on how much you're paying for it.|||Ok, the motherboard has onboard graphics, but the computer is not using it because it has a graphics card installed in one of the PCIe slots, which disables the onboard graphics. You don't really need to get anything new for that computer it is fine for gaming as it is. Maybe the power supply should be upgraded but that is the only thing I can see right now.

So basically, that motherboard has onboard graphics, but its not using it because of the better HD 5750 that is installed in the PCIe slot.

My motherboard has a graphics card but i have a pci e video what should i use?

PCI is an ati Radeon hd 2400 series I have no idea what the on board is its an asus motherboard!|||Correct solution is to search internet for the integrated video of your ASUS mother boaed.

But since already an HDMI is present in your add on card, I guess it is superior to your onboard graphics. Simply install it in the PCIe slot and start your computer. Use the CD that came with the card to install drivers and software. If you have a monitor capable of HDMI then use that.

What is the difference between a Sapphire Radeon HD4670 1GB Video Card and Diamond Radeon HD4670 1GB VC?

I'm in market for a video card and really like the ATI Radeon HD4670 because of its heatsink and fan size. I've found 2 versions of the video card and the price difference is about $30. Want to know if there is a significant difference in performance of Sapphire Radeon HD4670 1GB DDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI PCI-Express Video Card (100296HDMI) VS. Diamond ATI Radeon HD4670 GDDR3 1GB PCI-Express DVI Video Card (4670PE31GDT)? Thanks.|||it's only brand which we are talking to. No difference at all|||they may not have the same connectors (on the sapphire it states vga/dvi/hdmi but the diamond could have 2 dvi/1 hdmi . (all the other stats are the same)

they both should run about the same ( check too see if the core clocks and memory clocks are the same speed)

i've had a couple of bad experiences with sapphire so i would get the other one unless the clocks were a lot slower ( one of my own cards and one customers card were bad .... seems like the memory was overclocked to much went bad .. mine was an older 9600xt that cost 139 at the time and they would not check it out properly so i ended up down clocking them to get them to run stable)

did you see a xfx card in that price range if so they will have a longer ( maybe lifetime) warranty and may over clock higher

They are installed in an ISA, PCI, AGP, or PCI Express (PCIe or PCI-E) slot on the computer's motherboard.

The order of the evolution of video/graphics cards is ISA => PCI => AGP => PCI EXpress. The ISA and PCI standards are no longer used. AGP video cards are still available, but the standard is being replaced by the latest PCI Express standard.

The most important consideration with regard to a video card of any standard is that it must be supported by the motherboard on which it is to be installed. The motherboard must have the correct slot for a particular video card.

The first ISA video/graphics cards had very little onboard graphics RAM memory, which was measured in kilobytes (KB) instead of megabytes (MB). Ten years ago, 1MB and 2MB video cards were high-end cards. After the standard progressed to the PCI bus, quickly followed by the AGP bus, the amount of RAM quickly increased to 4MB, 8MB, 16MB, 32MB, 64MB, 128MB, and 256MB, where most AGP and PCI Express high-end cards are at present.

The image above shows an ATI Radeon X1300 video card, which has three ports - from left to right, standard analog D-sub VGA, AVIVO (Video In, Video Out), and digital DVI.|||Those radeon 9600s are APG|||My cousin has a similar ATI 9600 saphire card, his is AGP, but they come in AGP and PCI. To solve, in order of scare factor, try:

1 I have a radeon X1400, it comes with ATI's CATALYST control centre, my cousin has some similar software, a little ATI icon is in the ToolTray, there is tones of information there.

2 Administrive tools > System Information

3 Check BIOS and force boot the primary Dysplay device.

4 If it is in a tower, open it up and look... you'll most likely have a few PCI slots but only one special graphics slot (AGP PCIE). Don't get a shock!|||unless the computer is real new it is AGP x8 NOT PCIe 16

however with the VisionTek - ATI RADEON HD 4350 512MB DDR2 PCI Express Graphics Card retails for around £35 and another £20 would get you the "Asus GeForce GT 430 1024MB GDDR3 Low Profile PCI-Express Graphics Card"( http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component… ) .... allthough this is still a low end card its core and memory clock speeds aswell as a 128bit memory interface makes this more suitable for gaming..... it has a 700mhz core clock and 1gb of gddr3 memory running at 1600mhz ddr effective... throw in 96 stream processors and a 1400mhz shader clock and you have a pretty decent performer for the price, and far superior to the HD4350

i hope this helps brandon however any problems let me know

good luck mate !|||I guess so lol, does it look good to you

Will the ati radeon 4350 512mb ddr2 pci express 2.0 Graphic card run world of warcraft?

i was thinking about getting it to make my computer be able to play wow.

i'm not even sure if my computer will work with it so that is the first and most important question.

my computer is a hp and it has a pentium 4 cpu 1400 MHz 1.40GHz, 640 MB of RAM

and my current video card is a NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Pro(HP).

so what im looking to know is if this card will work on my computer and will it run world of warcraft without the game lagging?|||As WoW has been updated countless times over the years its requirements have gone up quite a bit.

You may not want to hear it but 1.4GHZ CPU is not enough for WoW (by a WIDE margin)

Even if you got that video card it would bottleneck with your current CPU instantly making you get

about half or less of the performance you would get out of it in a proper environment.

On top of that i suggest ATLEAST 3gb of RAM preferably DDR3.

But even upgrading any of that would lead you too another problem. Your motherboard is too old for such abrupt tech advancements so it also would have to be replaced so in the end the best thing i can suggest (if you really want to play WoW) is to just buy a new PC altogether.

Will radeon hd 4670 1 gb ddr3 pci express 2.0 graphics card run age of empires 3?

will this video card run age of empires 3 because i was wondering if i would because i am thinking on buying it so i can play age of empires 3|||Yeah, it should run it decently. AOE3 isn't very demanding at all.

I am looking to upgrade my video card and am looking for advice on which card to purchase?

I own a HP XT948 and am not sure which card is better(max performance). The board has 1 AGP slot and 2 PCI slots. Is one particular kind of card better? My choices are a GeForce 5500 (PCI), ATI Radeon 9550 (PCI), or the Nvidia GeForce 6200 (AGP). It seems the AGP numbers go higher Than the PCI on the Nvidia cards, probably due to PCI-Express being introduced. I understand that AGP slots are pretty much phased out now and the card will be pretty much useless but I am more concerned about getting max performance from this machine. Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated and thank you for your time.|||If you have a choice between AGP and PCI express, from several different sources I have heard that PCI express is the way to go.

Depending on how old your computer is (sounds like you only have AGP for video) you have to choose the card type that works in it. I use the GEForce 5500 AGP (mostly because my system is a bit older and has only AGP).

Check your system on the HP website and see what type of video card slot it comes with (most come only with one). If it can handle PCI express, go with that (preferably GeForce type). If only AGP, then go with the GEForce AGP. Also you might try adding some more RAM memory to your system (if you don't have a gig of RAM already, do so... 2 would be better!). Those work hand-in-hand for system performance.|||The GeForce 6200 will be best. AGP is much faster than PCI. However, do not plan on playing any of the newest games on even this card, as it is stall rather old.|||If you don't have the capability to do PCIe go with AGP. AGP has a direct connection between the video circuitry and the PC's memory.

Yes, AGP is slowly being weeded out but I myself use a GeForce 7600GS AGP and i have just as good frame rates as people I know that use PCIe.|||I pretty much did what you are talking about a few months ago. I have an AMD 3200+ with a Gigabyte mobo that runs AGP. I sold my old ATI 9800 Pro and purchased an ATI 1950 Pro AGP. You can find them now for under $200 and it is the best AGP card available in my opinion... especially for that price. It will definately extend the lifespan of almost any older AGP system as I can play just about anything out nowadays. Just make sure you have a power supply that is up to spec for whatever card you do choose. I had to upgrade mine from a 350W to a 550W, and not because of the wattage, but the amps. So do your homework either way and good luck!!

Are there any 512MB PCI Video Cards Out There For Me?

I am worried about a certain game that I play telling me that my current graphics card...ATI Radeon 9250 Series doesn't meet the recomended requirements for the game. My current card is 256MB so I already know that to get a better card it would have to be 512MB, but all I am seeing is PCI-Express and AGP which I don't have and so I am freaking out a bit here. Anyone know what I can do or if there is anything out there for me?|||You should be freaking out that you are still using PCI graphics.

It's time to upgrade unfortunately.

There will never be any PCI 512MB gaming cards.|||Sorry Fox, there is NO 512Mb GPUs out there for PCI. if thats all you have, stick with it. Because you might have to upgrade to a whole new computer. Not that that's a bad idea it seems.

Can i run HD-467X-ZDFR Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card?

Processor: Core 2 Duo E4700 (C) DC 2.6 GHz (65W)

16X DVD(+/-)R/RW 12X RAM (+/-)R DL LightScribe SATA drive

Network (LAN): Integrated 10/100 Base-T networking interface|||Yes as long as your have a PSU that can support your new video card, and if you have a pci-e x16 sot on your motherboard (which you should, but there is a possibility it doesnt have it).

Id say you need like a 350W psu to handle the card with ease on your system. (Very bare min of like 200-250W).

I would suggest you also upgrade your systems ram, 1gb is hardly enough to do any gaming, which im sure is the reason you are getting a new video card for.

Need good video card 4 compaq presario sr5302fh. most pci-e cards i saw were rated above 250watt power supply?

PCI express 1.0 x16 is the card type im looking for. looked at GEFORCE 8500 GT 512MB & Sapphire ATI Radeon HD3450 512MB DDR2 but watted for 350 or 400.|||your not going to find too much except maybe older stuff. i suggest getting a cheap power supply since you already have a cheap one. most people will lecture and say "oh cheap power supply's fail all the time and take your system with it." but really getting a 580 watt echostar wont be any different from what you have now in quality except you can run whatever card you want. google that psu its the one i use on my hp a6030n. i upgraded my psu to run my 8800gt oc2. runs just fine no problems ever.|||first off, you have no business buying a video card.....yet.

Even if you got a video card, it can only perform as well as your COU allows and according to the COMPAQ website, you have a 1.8 Intel Celeron processor.

Hop on over to www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com (i prefer newegg) and start from scratch. Might wanna find someone who can help you cause if you dont know what you're doing, you could waste alot of money.

you need a

Computer Case - you'll want AT LEAST a Mid ATX tower.

Power Supply - AT LEAST a 500 watt power supply.

Processor - choose at least a dual core AMD or Intel processor. Intels are more expensive but a little bit better quality. I use AMD cause its cheaper.

Motherboard - You'll want something that supports at least a dual core processor, 2-4 Sata ports, 800mhz RAM, and a PCI-e slot.

RAM - at least 2 gigs of ram at 800mhz.

Video Card - Get an 8800GTS or something similar. its not that much more and it performs ALOT better.

DVD drive - anything sata really.

Hard Drive - also, anything Sata.

MAKE SURE YOU PURCHASE A PROCESSOR ALONG WITH A FAN AND HEATSINK!

Failure to do so may void your warranty as i found out the hard way.

Good luck. Remember, Google is your friend.|||Don't even bother upgrading that T**D. It's not worth it.

Should I Buy Radeon 4650 512MB PCI express graphics card - Sapphire?

Okay well I enjoy playing games such as World Of Warcraft, Warhammer Online and Lord Of The Rings Online and I was just wondering if this was a good graphics card i should buy. Please dont give me graphics card suggestions just tell me if I should buy this or not, The link below is the graphics card im talking about. Please tell me if its worth buying it. Thank You =)

And I'm wondering, because I know I'm going to get a graphics card no matter what, that since it has both a PCI Express and PCI slot, if I install both will the computer run both? If not I'll just put in an AMD PCI Express card by itself.|||Unless you plan to have 4 monitors attached to your computer at once, no, there isn't any point in having a PCIE and PCI graphics card at the same time.

Only one card does the actual work of processing graphics, the other idles. Using that setup (1 PCIE and 1 PCI) the best your PCI card can do is to just provide 2 additional ports for you to plug monitors into, but it is useless in gaming.

If you want dual graphics cards, you need a motherboard that supports Crossfire or SLi, with a minimum of 2 PCIE 16x slots. The 2 cards will also need to be identical and linked together using a bridge.

PCI graphics cards are ancient anyway, you won't be able to play any recent games on a PCI card.
